Police: Pedestrian hit by car, killed; driver arrested on DUI count

A 44-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car and killed, and a motorist suspected of DUI was arrested late Thursday just east of the Las Vegas Strip, according to Metro Police.

The crash was reported about 11:40 p.m. at South Sammy Davis Jr. and West Las Vegas Plaza drives, police said.

A 2017 Hyundai Elantra was heading north on Sammy Davis Jr. Drive when it hit the pedestrian, who was crossing at the intersection with West Las Vegas Plaza, police said.

The woman died at the scene, police said.

The driver, Corey Alan Hockin, 27, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on a count of DUI resulting in death, Las Vegas Justice Court records show.

He appeared in court this morning, where a judge set a $10,000 bail, records show.

The traffic fatality, the 56th Metro has investigated this year, remained under investigation, police said.
