A man walked up to a Strip casino cage, put down a duffel bag on the counter, and handed the clerk a note demanding $10,000 in gaming chips while threatening an explosion, according to Metro Police.
The robbery occurred about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Cosmopolitan, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The suspect, Ronald Allison, 51, was later arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on one count each of robbery with a deadly weapon, and burglary while in possession of a weapon, police said.
He appeared in front of a judge Wednesday, where he was ordered held without bail, according to Las Vegas Justice Court logs.
Allison was seen writing on a notebook as he walked through the casino, police said.
He walked up to the cage, and first placed three coins on the counter, then the bag, before he showed the clerk a message on the notebook: “Give me 10K purple or Boom (sic).”
The clerk handed Allison 10 casino chips valued at $500 each, but also hit a silent alarm, police said. Allison walked away without saying a word.
As Allison left, he changed clothes, putting on a basketball jersey, police said. Metro’s Southern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center tracked his movements through the Strip with cameras into another casino where he was arrested, police said.
Allison admitted to the robbery and told investigators that he burned the threatening note, according to his arrest report.
Police said he was in possession of the stolen chips. Allison allegedly told police that he was trying to catch a bus to leave the Strip before he was arrested.
Allison’s case didn’t show an attorney on record in court logs.
