Motorcyclist killed, passenger injured in crash

A motorcyclist was killed and a passenger seriously injured this morning after running through a T intersection and crashing in a drainage canal, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 6 a.m. at East Harmon Avenue and Jimmy Durante Boulevard, police said. The motorcycle was east on Harmon when the operator failed to slow down and ran straight through the intersection, police said.

The motorcycle hit a curb, crashed through a chain-link fence and crossed a drainage canal before hitting an embankment, police said.

The operator, a 31-year-old Las Vegas man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name was not released pending notification of his family, police said.

The female passenger was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with major injuries, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
