HBO series focuses on Pahrump TV news station

An independent TV news station in Pahrump was documented for an HBO series set to premiere in August, the network announced.

“Small Town News: KPVM Pahrump,” which was produced by lauded filmmakers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, “provides an entertaining glimpse into a scrappy, (hard working) local news broadcaster looking to expand into a bigger market during challenging times,” HBO said in a news release.

That expansion, according to the release, would bring the station’s signal to Las Vegas, about 60 miles away.

KPVM, one of about 100 independently owned stations across the U.S., is owned by Vernon “Vern” Van Winkle and his wife, Ronda Van Winkle.

The six-part series will premier on HBO and its streaming service Aug. 2, with the rest of the episodes airing over the following two weeks.

"With a dose of humor and admiration, (the show) focuses its lens on the microcosm of daily operations at KPVM revealing a staff of idiosyncratic, larger-than-life individuals as they endeavor to deliver local news with care and vigor in an ever-shifting media landscape,” the release said.
