Passenger traffic at the Las Vegas airport continued to rise in May, according to a report released today.

More than 3.5 million arriving and departing passengers passed through McCarran International Airport last month, about 600,000 more than in April, the Clark County Department of Aviation said.

The count for May was still below the pre-pandemic passenger total of about 4.6 million in May 2019. But it represents another step forward for Las Vegas as the tourism-driven economy continues to rebound from the coronavirus pandemic.

During May 2020, when air travel in the U.S. was essentially at a standstill, only about 325,000 passengers passed through the gates at McCarran.

Through the first five months of this year, McCarran has reported 12.1 million passengers, a 42% decline from the same period in 2019.

For the first five months of 2020, the airport reported about 10.6 million passengers.
