Rain and snow flurries fell across the Las Vegas Valley today as a slow-moving storm system continued to push across the region, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm, centered on Las Vegas this morning, is expected to move east throughout the day, clearing out by Saturday morning.

Between midnight and 10 a.m. today, more than a quarter inch of rain fell at McCarran International Airport, weather service meteorologist Trevor Boucher said. Another third of an inch was recorded on Thursday.

Snow flurries were reported this morning in the Anthem and Summerlin areas, with 4 to 8 inches accumulating in the surrounding Spring Mountains above 6,000 feet, Boucher said.

A winter weather advisory was in effect until 4 p.m. for the Spring Mountains, including Mount Charleston and Kyle Canyon. Travel could be difficult with snow-covered roads and poor visibility.

Today’s high temperature was forecast at 53 degrees, but cloud conditions may keep it as low as the high 40s, Boucher said. The average for this time of year is about 70 degrees.

This morning, it was 39 degrees at the airport and a few degrees colder on the west side of the valley.

Temperatures should start warming up Saturday and moving into next week, with highs back in the 60s and 70s.

Another storm system is expected to move through the area Monday and Tuesday, but it will be mainly a wind-maker, Boucher said. Expect gusts up to 40 mph.
