LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Preserving land is the right move

I want to thank the Nevada delegation for introducing the Southern Nevada Economic Development and Conservation Act, which will protect close to 2 million acres of public lands in Southern Nevada while addressing climate change and investment in our local economy.

This bill will aid in protecting the Desert National Wildlife Refuge just north of Las Vegas. As the president and CEO of Knit, our personal involvement with the design and construction of the Desert Refuge Visitor Center in Corn Creek allowed us to ensure a future for nature to thrive, kids to play, families to enjoy and everyone to learn about these treasured places.

These parks and visitor centers provide access to the outdoors for innumerable Nevadans and tourists yearly, and preserve habitat for some rare species and wildlife in Southern Nevada.

As our Southern Nevada communities continue to grow, it will become ever more critical to have pristine areas where we can enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds us. Our open spaces are as critical as the spaces where we choose to build.

Thank you for your work to ensure that our parks and public lands will continue to be protected and preserved.
