A Las Vegas man arrested this week on suspicion of making a bomb threat apparently did so to distract police after he was accused of stealing a golf cart, according to a Metro Police arrest report.

Scott Wesolaski, 31, was arrested Wednesday and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of communicating a bomb threat.

Police received a call at 1:46 a.m. from an unidentified male stating there was a bomb threat made at a Dotty’s Casino near Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard and quickly hung up, police said. Police attempted to call the number back, but nobody would pick up.

Officers arrived at the Dotty’s and informed an employee of the bomb threat. Police, however, were unable to locate any possible explosives in or around the building, according to the report.

Police were able to conduct a records check on the number that called in the threat, and identified the number as belonging to Wesolaski. Records showed Wesolaski was arrested earlier that day and was already being held at CCDC.

Records show that Wesolaski was taken into custody after a golf cart was reported stolen to Metro, police said. The person who reported the cart missing called police back and said he had located the man, later identified as Wesolaski, who took the cart and was following him. Police then arrived to the 2200 block of South Jones Boulevard and took Wesolaski into custody.

At the jail, officers interviewed Wesolaski, who confirmed his phone number was the one that called in the threat. He said he let an unidentified stranger borrow his phone to make a call, according to the report.

Wesolaski told police he was unsure of the exact time he let the man use his phone. Police told him the bomb threat had been called in using his phone number. Wesolaski initially denied making the call, but eventually confessed, stating he called in the threat to distract police from showing up to the golf cart call.

Records show Wesolaski posted bond and has a hearing scheduled for Dec. 8 in Las Vegas Justice court where he is expected to be formally charged.
