Pedestrian killed by suspected DUI driver in crash on Sahara Avenue

A Las Vegas motorist was arrested early Saturday after fatally striking a pedestrian east of the Strip, according to Metro Police.

Juan Vazquez, 31, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center for DUI resulting in death, police said in a release. The crash occurred at 12:51 a.m. on East Sahara Avenue, east of Commercial Center Drive.

Evidence at the scene and a witness statement indicated Vazquez was driving east on Sahara in a gray 2008 Honda Civic in the far-right lane. Vazquez subsequently struck the pedestrian, who was in the roadway, police said.

Medics declared the pedestrian dead at the scene. Vazquez remained at the site of the crash and “displayed indicators of impairment, and was booked accordingly,” police said.

The identity of the pedestrian was not given and no further details were released.
