Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak speaks during a news conference at the Sawyer State Building Thursday Aug. 5, 2021. The governor gave an update on the COVID-19 situation in Nevada.

Gov. Steve Sisolak adjusted the state’s pandemic-driven large gathering directive Tuesday, giving event operators the flexibility to admit attendees younger than 12 regardless of their coronavirus vaccination status.

The vaccine has been available to children as young as 5 in Nevada since early November. As of Sunday, more than 20,000 Nevada children in the recently authorized 5-11 age group alone had received the shot, according to state health department data.

The amended directive says event operators may admit kids 11 and under who are not vaccinated but will still require all such children to wear a face covering.

Children under 12 who provide proof of full vaccination are not required to wear a mask during the event.
