A 16-year Nevada State Police Highway Patrol trooper died last week after succumbing to COVID-19 complications, the agency said Monday.

Trooper Cliff Fontaine, 54, died Saturday after he was hospitalized in early October with pneumonia related to the novel coronavirus, the department said in a Twitter post. He was born in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

In addition to Fontaine’s service with NHP, he served as an EMT in Las Vegas for more than 20 years, the agency said. Funeral services have not yet been made public, according to Palm Northwest Mortuary & Cemetery, which has a web page in Fontaine’s memoriam.
