Vegas police: Man booked on DUI charge following crash with motorcycle

A Las Vegas man was arrested Saturday morning on a DUI charge after he failed to stop for a red light to cause a crash that left two people on a motorcycle in critical condition, Metro Police said.

Javier Hernandez, 29, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center, online booking records show. The crash occurred at about 1:50 a.m. near the intersection of East Cheyenne Avenue and North Lamb Boulevard, police said in a news release.

Evidence at the scene indicated a black 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide was traveling east on Cheyenne, approaching the intersection. Hernandez was driving south on Lamb in a silver 2017 Dodge Durango, and when he entered the intersection despite a red light, he crossed the Harley Davidson’s path of travel, police said.

Hernandez failed to remain at the scene after the crash, but the vehicle was later located by patrol officers, police said. Hernandez showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI, failure to observe a red light and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Both motorcycle occupants were transported by ambulance to University Medical Center Trauma for treatment of “substantial” injuries sustained in the crash, police said. The collision remains under investigation.
