Metro: Man dies in police custody at Vegas pharmacy

A man died in Metro Police custody Monday after experiencing a “medical episode” at an area pharmacy, Capt. Carlos Hank said.

Officers responded at about 1:30 p.m. to a pharmacy in the 6400 block of South Fort Apache Road to assist with a man “acting erratic” in the bathroom, Hank said in a news briefing.

The man would not listen to police commands, Hank said. After the man was put into handcuffs, he became unresponsive, Hank said.

The man’s handcuffs were removed and medical personnel performed aid on the man, who was taken to Southern Hills Hospital — across the street from the Walgreens — where he later died, Hank said.

Metro’s force investigation team is probing the incident, Hank said.

The man will be identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office after family is notified. No other details were given.
