A Mojave High School athletics coach accused of sexual conduct with a pupil allegedly met with a female student in a store parking lot, according to a Clark County School District Police arrest report.

Michael A. Jones III, 21, turned himself in to the Clark County Detention Center on Oct. 12. He was arraigned Monday in North Las Vegas Justice Court, online records show, and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for December.

He was fired from his position after the arrest, according to a CCSD police release last week.

School district police initially received an allegation on Oct. 5 that Jones was having an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to the arrest report. An officer stated a parent gave police permission to search their child’s phone. The parent said that Jones and the student had met up at a Walmart on 1807 W. Craig Road on Oct. 6.

Police obtained video footage from outside the Walmart, which showed Jones’ vehicle parked there from 2:24 p.m. until 3:17 p.m., according to the report. The footage shows the student walking into the store to make a purchase while Jones cleared his backseat.  The student got into Jones’ vehicle and moved to the back seat and was seen leaving about a half-hour later.

While searching the student’s phone, police found three calls between her and Jones, the most recent being just before the two met at Walmart. Police also found a screenshot of a message from Jones stating the girl’s body was “desirable,” according to the report.

Officers made contact with Jones on Oct. 11 to set up an interview for the next day. Before Jones turned himself in, an attorney had called police on Jones’ behalf to say he would not be giving a statement and he would be brought to jail.
