For schools located in opposite parts of Las Vegas, the Arbor View and Desert Pines football programs have shared the spotlight many times over the years.

It will happen again tonight with the Jaguars heading to Arbor View in a showdown of class 5A powers in the final nonleague tuneup before conference games begin next week.

The game will feature Desert Pines’ speed vs. Arbor View’s power and a ton of talent on each side.

The all-time series is even at two games apiece. In 2019, Desert Pines eliminated Arbor View from the playoffs in a 35-7 win. Desert Pines, located in northeast Las Vegas, also beat Arbor View 50-14 in the 2015 opener.

Arbor View (3-1) has the most thrilling win, a 28-21 playoff victory in 2018 that went down to the wire. The Aggies also have the most lopsided win, a 51-0 victory in 2017.

Both teams are expecting a back-and-forth affair tonight in a fitting battle of two consensus top-5 teams.

There are many more games across the valley, including the Cleat Game between Eldorado and host Chaparral, Palo Verde visiting Basic and Bishop Gorman in Arizona to face Hamilton.

We’ve also had two games canceled because of the pandemic — the Bone Game between Rancho and Las Vegas, and Spring Valley’s tilt with Clark. Clark will instead play Sierra Vista, which was on a bye week.
