1 dead after barricade near Charleston, U.S. 95

Updated Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021 | 8:51 p.m.

A person was fatally shot by Henderson Police on Tuesday amid a barricade situation in the 3000 block of East Charleston Boulevard, the department said.

Henderson Police was asked by Metro Police to assist with an armed barricade, Henderson Police spokesman Alan Olvera said. Two Henderson SWAT officers fired at the subject, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Olvera said.

A description of the subject was not released. Olvera said it’s the second officer-related shooting by Henderson Police this year.

No other information was immediately available, but the barricade situation caused police to close the U.S. 95 north and south ramps and Charleston at about 4 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol Southern Command tweeted. All lanes were reopened by 7:30 p.m.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes, Metro said in a tweet.

The barricade situation was the second dealt by local law enforcement on Tuesday. A barricade situation near 11th Street and Lewis Avenue ended after the suspect was fatally shot by a SWAT officer. Metro said the subject had fired “indiscriminately” at crisis negotiators, officers and nearby buildings.

Olvera said the two barricade situations were not related.
