The Spring Valley High football team won this game for junior wide receiver Alec Livingston.

Livingston suited up for the Grizzlies tonight in their 45-7 win over Chaparral with a heavy heart, as his father died unexpectedly this week.

After having a touchdown called back earlier in the game because of a penalty, Livingston scored on a long touchdown to cap an emotional week.

“The kids really rallied around him. That was special to see,” longtime Spring Valley coach Marcus Teal said while fighting back tears.

Players from the Chaparral team made their way over to the Spring Valley sideline before the game to console Livingston in a gesture Teal says was very meaningful to the Spring Valley community.

“That was an awesome gesture,” Teal said. “(Chaparral coach Don Willis) is an awesome individual; classy guy.”

Tipisone Manu rushed for about 100 yards and three touchdowns for Spring Valley, Ti’shaun Ereaux-Jackson passed for two scores, and Antwon Lock had a defensive touchdown.

The Spring Valley defense had a shutout going until Chaparral returned a kickoff for a score.

Oregon State recruit Kelze Howard had 3.5 sacks and Colton Jones — Spring Valley’s other captain — had 2.5 sacks.

“Our defense played lights out,” Teal said.
