Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo (7) skates against the Colorado Avalanche during the third period of an NHL hockey game at T-Mobile Arena Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.

Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will stay away from the team due to an illness in the family with no timetable for a return, the team announced today.

Pietrangelo did not travel with the Golden Knights on their four-game road trip on which Vegas went 3-1-0 and capped with a win against the Boston Bruins on Monday.

When asked at morning skate if there was an update on the Golden Knights' top defenseman, coach Bruce Cassidy said there was no timeline for Pietrangelo's return.

"That's one of those ones where we're working with Alex and supporting him," Cassidy said. "When he's ready, he'll come back."

The Golden Knights listed Pietrangelo as a nonroster player, according to CapFriendly. There's no time limit on how long Pietrangelo can stay designated on that list.

Pietrangelo was in the midst of the best start to a season in his career with 21 points in 23 games while leading the team in ice time at 23:29.

Vegas recalled defenseman Daniil Miromanov from AHL Henderson prior to Saturday's game in Detroit. Miromanov, an offensive-oriented blueliner, played 16:34 in Boston and was on the second power-play unit. He's expected to fill those roles again tonight against the New York Rangers.

The Golden Knights are also without center Jack Eichel, who is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and will not play.

Despite their two leading scorers out, the Golden Knights won three of four on the road trip and lead the Western Conference with a 19-7-1 record.

"We knew we had a really good team, but good teams step up in big games like [Monday in Boston] when big guys are missing," forward Nicolas Roy said. "We feel confident about our group. We battled through 60 minutes and overtime. I think we're looking good."
