Theodore, Whitecloud out for extended time as Golden Knights begin road trip

Golden Knights Take On Winnipeg Jets

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud (2) is checked by Winnipeg Jets center Adam Lowry (17) during the second period of an NHL hockey game at T-Mobile Arena Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022.

The Golden Knights were dealt a lucky hand with the injury bug to begin the season. That luck has run its course.

Defensemen Shea Theodore (lower body, week-to-week) and Zach Whitecloud (lower body, month-to-month) will miss extended time due to injuries as the Golden Knights begin their two-game road trip tonight in Winnipeg (5 p.m., AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain).

Leading scorer Jack Eichel (lower body) remains day-to-day, but was placed on injured reserve Monday, according to the NHL's media website. By rule, Eichel has to miss the next two games and is eligible to return for Saturday's home game against the New York Islanders.

Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo remains away from the team due to an illness in the family.

Vegas recalled forward Jonas Rondbjerg and defensemen Brayden Pachal and Kaedan Korczak from AHL Henderson in corresponding moves on Monday and two are expected in the lineup tonight.

The Golden Knights, at 20-9-1, are still the top team in the Pacific Division but have fallen out of favor as the No. 1 team in the Western Conference. That distinction goes to their opponent on Tuesday.

Winnipeg has won seven of its last nine games and has a .002 edge in points percentage on Vegas having played three fewer games.

The Golden Knights are 6-5-1 in their last 12 overall.
