Terrified parade-goers fled Highland Park’s Fourth of July parade after shots were fired, leaving behind their belongings as they sought safety, Monday, July 4, 2022, in Highland Park, Ill.

Gov. Steve Sisolak today ordered U.S. and state flags on Nevada public grounds lowered to half mast in honor of those killed and injured Monday in a shooting at an Illinois parade.

Seven people were killed and more than 30 injured when a gunman opened fire at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Ill., authorities said.

“As the country celebrated its independence, another community once again was senselessly attacked and lives were lost to gun violence,” Sisolak said in a statement.

Sisolak said he and his wife, Kathy, were “heartbroken for the victims and their loved ones and we’re sending our support to the community.”

Flags in Nevada will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Saturday.
