It is extraordinary how Americans trade away their human dignity to worship at the feet of celebrity TV hosts and election-year politicians.
Contestants on “The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal” act like buffoons running to and fro across the stage and jumping up and down after being selected for a chance to win a prize.
What will customers, family members, neighbors, colleagues or friends think about such greedy, infantile regression in an adult? Do you think they will want to be like the person they saw on television?
Americans pull similar antics while following political candidates who promise similarly chancy benefits in campaign speeches. We gleefully ignore reality and follow them like lemmings off a cliff.
I’ve never seen anything like this behavior — not at the circus, the roulette wheel, a sports bar, a frat party or high school dance.
What an embarrassment we must be to the world and to our children and grandchildren.
