A 21-year-old man was arrested today in a reckless driving case that killed a 13-year-old boy earlier this week near a Henderson middle school.

Jose Marmolejo was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Henderson Detention Center on one charge of reckless driving resulting in death, police said in a release.

Henderson police and fire units responded shortly after 5:15 p.m. Monday to the 100 block of Paradise Hills Drive after reports of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian, police said.

Initial findings from an investigation revealed a black 2006 Ford Mustang driven by Marmolejo was heading east on Paradise Hills at a high rate of speed when it lost control and struck a curb, police said. The Mustang continued onto the eastbound sidewalk, striking the teen.

The boy, identified by the Clark County Coroner’s office as Rex Patchett, was pronounced dead at the scene police said. The coroner’s officer ruled Patchett’s death an accident, with the cause of death being blunt force trauma to the head, trunk and extremities.

Impairment is not considered a factor, however, excessive speeds. Police have not indicated how fast Marmolejo was driving.

Jail records show Marmolejo remains at the Henderson Detention Center and is being held on $5,000 bond. A court date for Marmolejo has not yet been scheduled, according to Henderson Justice Court online records.
