The Rainbow Club in downtown Henderson, long one of the anchor businesses on Water Street, is turning 55 on Saturday.

The casino will celebrate the occasion with complimentary slow-smoked beef brisket sandwiches, frozen drinks and cake, officials said. There will also be gambling prizes every 20 minutes.

Rainbow Club opened in 1967 on Water Street in a building that was a grocery store during World War II.

As Water Street has evolved — from the place to be in the 1960s and 70s to dormant years in the late 1990s to its current revival as part of the Water Street District — the Rainbow Club has been there welcoming locals.

It’s a place where everyone seems to know everyone’s name. And it’s a place where there are always food specials, whether that’s the two-egg breakfast, hamburgers at lunch or fish and chips on Fridays.

There are still signs of yesteryear throughout the property, such as a ticket window on the second floor, serving as a reminder to longtime Henderson residents of the one-screen movie theater at the property when it originally opened.

The casino in 2020 was purchased by brothers Tim and Mike Brooks, who are among the leaders of the Water Street revival and owners of the nearby Emerald Island.
