House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is upset that the President Joe Biden will not negotiate with him over spending cuts and changes to existing programs in exchange for an increase in the debt limit.
This seems similar to a group of hackers taking over a hospital’s computer system and demanding money to return system control to the hospital.
I am reminded of the time a violent mob attacked a government building threatening to hang the vice president unless Congress reinstated as president the loser in the recent election.
Someone needs to remind McCarthy that one of the key foundations of U.S. policy, as stated by former President Richard Nixon decades ago, is that the government does not negotiate with terrorists. Maybe the Republican Party would stop acting like terrorists if they would just remember that. And then maybe Biden might open negotiations with a more-normal Republican Party.
