The City of Las Vegas will unveil new exterior murals at the West Las Vegas Arts Center in the Historic Westside at 11 a.m. Saturday.
It’s the first completed installation of the Historic Westside Mural Project, which ties into the city’s Historic Urban Neighborhood Design Redevelopment (HUNDRED) Plan. Developed in 2016, the HUNDRED Plan was developed to “transform the Westside into a vibrant neighborhood.”
“A big part of the HUNDRED Plan in Action is to ensure that we are celebrating our culture and adding public art to the community,” said Las Vegas City Councilman Cedric Crear, whose Ward 5 is part of the Historic Westside. “These beautiful new murals really add to the Doolittle Complex and I look forward to seeing even more public art created in the Historic Westside.”
The three artists who created the murals — Iandry Randriamandroso, X Darvi and Michelle Graves — will join Crear and project manager Chase McCurdy, another local artist. The arts center is located at 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
City officials said the new murals are an extension of the mural wall that runs along the eastern boundary of Kianga Isoke Palacio Park, which was painted in 2018 by artist Dray Wilmore.
More murals will be coming to the Historic Westside, with one already in the works at Obodo Collective off C Street through the support of the Mayor's Fund for Las Vegas Life and McCurdy, city officials said.
