Las Vegas dentist pleads guilty to tax charge

A Nevada-licensed dentist with pediatric offices located in North Las Vegas and Las Vegas pleaded guilty Thursday to knowingly failing to pay employment taxes withheld from employees at his practice, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.

As the owner and operator of Starmiles Children’s Dentistry, LLC, Timothy Wilson of Phoenix was responsible for collecting and paying over to the Internal Revenue Service the income, Medicare and Social Security taxes withheld from wages paid to employees of the practice, the attorney’s office said.

From 2011 to 2014, Wilson withheld those taxes from his employees’ wages, but did not pay the withholdings to the IRS — for a total tax loss of $289,654.63.

IRS Criminal Investigation is investigating the case, with trial attorneys Patrick Burns and Regina Jeon of the Justice Department’s Tax Division prosecuting.

Wilson’s sentencing is scheduled for April 24, the attorney’s office said. He faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, as well as a period of supervised release, restitution and monetary penalties.
