One killed, several injured in apartment fire in Las Vegas

One person is dead, one missing, six people injured and 18 people displaced following an early morning fire at The Tides apartment complex, a Las Vegas Fire Department release says.

The department responded within minutes of receiving a fire report at 6501 W. Charleston at 5:04 a.m., the release says.

Upon arrival, portions of the building were already untenable for firefighters to reach due to a lack of structural integrity, the release says. It took more than an hour for the fire to be contained and extinguished at about 6:42 a.m.

Crews spent the hours after the fire overhauling the site and investigating the case, the release says. Heavy equipment has been requested to assist.

As of afternoon, firefighters continued to search for one person unaccounted for.

Six patients were transported to an area hospital for injuries, all of whom were in stable condition, the release says. One firefighter was injured but was cleared and returned to duty.

The American Red Cross is providing emotional support and access to housing, food, clothing and medication for 18 people displaced by the fire.

Every deadly fire in the region is automatically investigated by the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Arson Investigators, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations and the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
