Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo announced another appointment today, this time the new head of the Nevada Transportation Authority, according to a release from the governor’s office.

Vaughn Hartung was appointed to the agency and designated the NTA’s new chair. Hartung is now a former member of the Washoe County Commission after he resigned today upon receiving the appointment, the release stated.

“Throughout his time as Commissioner, Vaughn helped bring critical innovation, development, and growth to Washoe County,” Lombardo, a Republican, stated in the release. I’m grateful for Vaughn’s willingness to continue his service to others by serving as the Chair of the Nevada Transportation Authority.”

Hartung served as chair for the Washoe County Commission representing District 4, which includes Sparks, Spanish Springs and Hidden Valley. He held several board appointments including on the Regional Transportation Commission and on the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority.

Prior to his service on the commission, Hartung owned a local photography business and served as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College, where he taught photography for two decades, the release stated.
