A suicidal man who killed his ex-wife in a room on the Las Vegas Strip and injured himself was arrested Sunday on a murder count, police said.

Metro received a report about 1:30 p.m. Sunday of a suicidal person in the 3700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, police said.

Officers found a man suffering self-inflicted injuries and an unresponsive woman inside a room, police said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man, Fernando Gomez, 42, was taken to University Medical Center, police said.

Police said Gomez killed his ex-wife and then injured himself before calling authorities. He was arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on a count of open murder after being treated for his injuries, police said.

A booking photo shows Gomez with what appear to be bandages on his neck and chest.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, police said.
