Voter turnout was light throughout Clark County on Tuesday for the municipal primary elections in Henderson, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and Mesquite. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will closed at 7 p.m.

Family, friends and local dignitaries filled the North Las Vegas Council Chambers at City Hall Wednesday to watch one new and three returning public officials be sworn into office. Shari Buck became the first elected female mayor of the city, moving over from the council seat she filled for the past 10 years.

North Las Vegas voters are returning to the polls to choose their next mayor. After 12 years, Mayor Michael Montandon is being forced out because of term limits. During his tenure, Montandon oversaw unprecedented growth in the city as the population swelled from 91,000 to about 217,000. The two candidates vying to replace him oversaw the growth, too. William Robinson has served on the City Council since 1983. His opponent, Shari Buck, has been on the council since 1999.

Boulder City voters can begin to head to the polls Saturday, as early voting begins at City Hall, 401 California St.The race between project developer Cam Walker and former City Councilman Bill Smith, a retired travel agent, for a seat on the City Council will be on the ballot, along with six questions. Voter turnout has been light in Las Vegas this morning for the municipal primary elections. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m. today. Voters were heading to 15 centralized vote centers in Henderson for the second time. In North Las Vegas as of 3 p.m., 3,107 people had voted in the city's 20 polling places, the Clark County Election Department said.

Boulder City Council candidate Cam Walker says he's proud of his part in helping develop the Las Vegas Monorail, despite a recent newspaper ad that takes aim at him for his involvement in the project that was plagued after it opened by mechanical problems and lackluster ridership and revenue numbers.
