Automobiles killed 39,000 people in the US last year, far more that guns. So what point are you trying to make?
The one that is used on a daily basis makes snese to regulate. Regulating weapons, used a few times a year, would be a waste of our Governments energy, time, resources,... Regulating anything does not stop misuse.

Automobiles killed 32,367 people in 2011. Firearms killed 8,583 people (FBI statistics). There is almost a four time greater chance to be killed by an automobile than a firearm. It is not the tool, but how it is used or abused that is important.
Regulations did not protect a family member who was hit by an uninsured, DUI driver whose license had been revoked for previous DUI convictions. We cannot regulate any person's behavior.
What is the number of people who died by automobile divided by the number of overall uses of automobile, compared with the number of people who died via gun use divided by the overall number of gun uses?
I'm guessing the far greater percentage is with guns.
A commenter at the Washington Post gave what I think is the best idea I have ever heard on gun control. Just as insurance must be held in order to drive a vehicle, so should your gun be insured.
After a background check and training, you must be able to afford insurance for you gun.
