Bumping up their taxes a teeny tiny bit is not going to drive them away. It'll still be a cheaper deal for them to be here, and many are already too invested to consider going elsewhere. If they've been benefitting from us, they can certainly help out when needed.
This state needs to move into the civilized era. Look at this poll (48/51 as I read it). People don't get it. How sad. Reflection of our pitiful education system...
This cannot remain a one industry town...
I moved my corporation here last year, *specifically* because there's no income tax here. My company's money and my personal money gets spent here. If a corporate income tax is introduced, I and my company are gone. Not that my corporation matters, but I'm not the only one that would pull up stakes move.
Most corporations are here SOLELY becuase there is no income tax. I suppose it is coincidence that the other states with no corporate or personal income taxes are also the ones least affected by the national economic crisis.
What is "sad" about "teacher"'s comment above is how ignorant he or she is about economics. If this is what we have teaching our kids, no wonder the system sucks so monumentally.
"Huh", unfortunately, like in Atlas Shrugged, these people won't appreciate what you contribute until you are gone. I think this state just has to hit rock bottom before these lemmings will "get it".
