Yes. It's important to the Strip and there should be no doubt about its future. | 26% | 90
I'd consider it, but only if it's shown that's the only option short of closing. | 15% | 52
No. If it can't survive on its own without public money, close the Monorail. | 57% | 196

The monorail is useless to most residents so using taxpayer money to operate it would be a windfall for strip businesses. It serves the casinos. Let them pay for it if they want to avoid the eyesore of an empty track and decaying concrete columns.
If it shuts down, make sure the company that built it has the funds to remove the track and restore the neighborhood.
I couldn't have said it better myself socrates!
If the monorail actually served a purpose, ie. ran to McCarran, then I would support a limited taxpayer bailout. As it sits right now, Socrates has it right.
If taxpayer money goes to funding the debacle that is the monorail a project better be announced immediately to have it run to the airport. Without that kinda plan in place how do they ever see this as a money making (or even splitting even) prospect?
Extending it from MGM to the airport should also include a stop at Thomas & Mac and the economy parking lot. Eliminate the shuttle buses.
The Monorail only serves people on the Strip, but without people on the Strip most of our neighbourhoods would have never existed in the first place.
This isn't really that much different than "The Deuce" which is publicly funded except that it's poorly planned. If there's no other option, integrate it into the RTC system and allow locals to ride at no additional charge. Keep charging extra for "The Deuce" (which goes where people actually want to be, at the front of the hotels) to make it up.
To bad it was a good idea but the way of its path is sorry. Visitors going to vacation and have a great time in Vegas do not want to see the back of a Hotel or Casino. This should have gone right down the strip. With out any question it would be producing more than Duces or any other mode of movement of people in Vegas. And by all means it should be going to the Airport.
I believe the monorail merits Federal, State and travelers user tax dollars. Done correctly, "public works" projects have proven their economic value. For example: Hoover Dam. A major expansion into a loop including Lake Mead and Laughlin would be a better use of public funds than many of the unpopular recent distributions to companies with failed business models, overpaid directors, and questionable products. Reliable mass transportation does create value, and some consider this a "more green" than the current vehicles system. Is General Motors really any more important than Southern Nevada?
