California man dies in one-car crash on U.S. 95

State trooper: Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI

A 25-year-old California man died early Saturday morning in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 95 south of Eastern Avenue, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The man, who has not yet been named, pending notification of relatives, was a passenger in the 2005 Dodge Caravan. He was first ejected from the vehicle and then struck by the vehicle, according to Trooper Loy Hixon.

The driver, a 27-year-old Las Vegas man, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, Hixon said.

The crash occurred about 2:24 a.m. Saturday as the van was traveling north on U.S. 95 in the number three travel lane, south of Eastern Avenue, Hixon said.

The van traveled onto the right paved shoulder, then the driver over-corrected steering to the left, causing the van to rotate counterclockwise, cross all the northbound travel lanes and go onto the left paved shoulder, Hixon said.

The front of the van struck the concrete center median barrier, then the van traveled back toward the number one travel lane, rotating counterclockwise, Hixon said.

At that point, the passenger was ejected and the van went back cross the left paved shoulder into the number one travel lane, striking the ejected passenger, Hixon said.
