Sunday, March 19, 2017
Basketball already has taken Mikey Thompson a lot of places, and now the goal is to see how far he can take the job.
Vegas Play of the Day: Monday Night Football
Monday, Oct. 31, 2016
There’s no real reason to believe that the Bears, who get Jay Cutler back at quarterback tonight, will actually win this game. But I feel like taking a shot and perhaps Minnesota’s offensive issues in last week’s 21-10 loss at Philadelphia can transfer to Chicago.
Rebels' comeback attempt falls flat at San Jose State
Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016
Ninety-six yards stood between the Rebels’ backup quarterback and a comeback victory that could have sent UNLV into its bye week with something to build on. But with no timeouts and less than two minutes on the clock, UNLV had to throw, and anyone familiar with the Rebels’ quarterback situation could predict how that situation would end no matter who’s throwing it.
Blog: UNLV falls to 3-6 overall with 30-24 loss at San Jose State
Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016
UNLV’s comeback attempt came up short on Kurt Palandech’s interception in the final minute as the Rebels lost 30-24 at San Jose State.
Rebels trying to bounce back on the road at San Jose State
UNLV (3-5, 2-2) is a small favorite as it looks to win second straight road game against the Spartans (2-6, 1-3)
Friday, Oct. 28, 2016
A few weeks ago, when it was pointed out that UNLV hadn’t won at San Diego State’s Qualcomm Stadium since 2000, UNLV coach Tony Sanchez joked that there were a lot of teams with streaks like that against the Rebels. It’s funny (or not) because it’s true, and while that one still stands UNLV has a chance to end a couple of trends this weekend at San Jose State.
Vegas Play of the Day: San Antonio Spurs at Sacramento Kings
Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016
I know one game’s result doesn’t always lead to the next, but it’s hard to get San Antonio’s demolition of the Warriors on the road out of my mind when looking at this one.
Rebels rallying around each other as 2016-17 season approaches
Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016
Less than a week before the team will make its 2016-17 debut in an exhibition game against Dakota Wesleyan, the Rebels introduced themselves Wednesday night to a couple hundred fans on campus outside of the UNLV Student Union. The Runnin’ Rebel Rally was certainly more subdued than last year’s pyrotechnics-heavy dunk contest downtown, but for junior Dwayne Morgan any opportunity to get out and meet fans is exciting.
Rebels searching for consistency after up-and-down start in league play
Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016
You know it wasn’t a good week when the team is thinking if only the halftime deficit could have been 28 instead of 35.

Tina Kunzer-Murphy, whose contract was set to end Dec. 31, 2016, will serve until June 30, 2017, then work with the UNLV Foundation
Monday, Oct. 24, 2016

Vegas Play of the Day: Monday Night Football
Monday, Oct. 24, 2016
I don’t particularly trust the Broncos’ offense, though at home I like their odds to not be terrible. What I am confident in is that Denver’s defense is going to terrorize former Bronco quarterback Brock Osweiler.
Rebels hope to quickly move past ugly 42-23 home loss to CSU
Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016
Maybe, just maybe, things could have played out differently if UNLV had kept its offense on the field for a fourth-and-1 attempt on its opening drive. That’s not second-guessing the decision, which at the time was reasonable …
Blog: Colorado State comes to UNLV and crushes Rebels 42-23
Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016
In the first half, UNLV gave up 35 points while its offense completed only one pass, a combination that can only end in a blowout victory. The Rebels dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in Mountain West play with a 42-23 …
UNLV basketball teams to hold preseason events on campus
Friday, Oct. 21, 2016
The Rebels’ basketball preseason event this year will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the UNLV Student Union courtyard, UNLV announced today.
Rebels aiming to build on potential breakthrough year against Rams
UNLV (3-4, 2-1) hosts Colorado State (3-4, 1-2) at 2:38 p.m. on Saturday on Root Sports and
Friday, Oct. 21, 2016
This time of year in college football is a lot about assessment. Where is your team right now and, more importantly, where can they still go?
Vegas Play of the Day: Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers
Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016
As a Bears fan, I didn’t expect much this season so a 1-5 record feels about right.
Rebels looking for more of the fanatical effort that led to Hawaii win
UNLV (3-4, 2-1) hosts Colorado State (3-4, 1-2) on Saturday at 2:38 p.m. on Root Sports and
Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016
The Rebels gathered on Sunday like they do every week, but it’s always more fun when the team meeting is breaking down a victory rather than a loss. Especially when it’s an exciting one like Saturday’s back and forth 41-38 victory at Hawaii.
Vegas Play of the Day: Monday Night Football
Monday, Oct. 17, 2016
Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is back tonight but there have been too many problems with Arizona to feel confident with them laying a touchdown against the top run defense in the league.
Rebels looking for a little revenge for 2014 loss at Hawaii
UNLV (2-4, 1-1) had a bizarre finish in its last trip to Aloha Stadium, where the Rebels haven't won since 2000
Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016
The Rebels had won, and then suddenly they didn’t, a bewildering turn of events that nearly two years later still sticks with the players who experienced first-hand that 37-35 loss in UNLV’s last trip to Hawaii.
Rebels looking to prove people wrong after being picked 8th in MW poll
Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016
A year ago, the Rebels felt so slighted by a fourth-place projected Mountain West finish that then-assistant coach Stacey Augmon tweeted, “Trust me this is a joke.” Now Augmon is coaching with the Milwaukee Bucks, the other three coaches are with different college programs and UNLV enters the season picked to finish eighth, its lowest projection in the league’s 17-year history.

Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016
Former UNLV starting quarterback Kurt Palandech made his season debut in garbage time of Saturday’s 26-7 loss at San Diego State, and coach Tony Sanchez said Palandech would play a more prominent role this weekend at Hawaii.
Rebels' game at Hawaii to be televised locally on Fox 5
Monday, Oct. 10, 2016
The Rebels’ game at Hawaii this weekend will be televised locally on KVVU-TV Fox 5, UNLV announced today. The TV station acquired the rights for the telecast from Oceanic Time Warner Cable, which produces all of the Rainbow Warriors’ home games for Oceanic pay-per-view.
Anemic offense never gave UNLV a chance in 26-7 loss at San Diego State
Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016
Numbers don’t always tell the whole story, but they capture everything that mattered in UNLV’s 26-7 loss Saturday night at San Diego State. For example: nine. That was the Rebels’ total passing yards, the second-lowest …
Blog: UNLV doesn't muster much production in 26-7 loss
Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016
UNLV’s lone score was a defensive touchdown and the offense never made much of a threat all night as San Diego State notched a workmanlike 26-7 victory against the Rebels. The Aztecs (4-1, 1-0) dominated …
Rebels and freshman QB face big challenge at San Diego State
Friday, Oct. 7, 2016
Undersized and overlooked, UNLV quarterback Dalton Sneed and San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey didn’t have a lot of college options. Now one of them will likely be the key to winning or losing Saturday’s matchup.
Vegas Play of the Day: Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers
Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016
I saw Cardinals backup quarterback Drew Stanton play on Sunday, and a short week of practice isn’t enough to erase that image from memory.

Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016
Rebels forward Cheickna Dembele has been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse and is eligible immediately, UNLV confirmed this afternoon. The 6-foot-11, 235-pound freshman is originally from Mali, Africa, and most recently played at Scotland Performance Institute in Pennsylvania.

UNLV's offensive line looks to continue paving the way vs. San Diego State
The Rebels (2-3, 1-0) have rushed for 364 yards in each of the last two games and have allowed only two sacks this season
Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016
UNLV defensive tackle Mike Hughes Jr. tapped the table a few times, a gentle knock on (probably) wood to remind senior center Will Kreitler not to tempt fate. The offensive line has been the foundation of this UNLV team in part because they’ve been healthy, something that can’t be said of the rest of the offense.
Vegas Play of the Day: Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays
Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016
At first I wanted to take a shot with the underdog Orioles, but starting pitcher Chris Tillman can’t be trusted north of the border, where he is 2-7 with a 7.01 ERA. So instead I’m going with an offensive explosion in tonight’s American League Wild Card game.
UNLV AD says no decision yet on her future
Monday, Oct. 3, 2016
UNLV Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy is expected to stay in her position through spring and then possibly move to another job within the university ...
UNLV football poised to continue strong start in Mountain West play
Monday, Oct. 3, 2016
For as bad as the UNLV football team’s overtime loss to Idaho was Sept. 24, Saturday’s win over Fresno State was a reminder that there's hope on the horizon. It made the Rebels 1-0 against foes in the subpar …
QB Sneed sparks Rebels to 45-20 home victory against Fresno State
Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016
Dalton Sneed scrambled for his life, and then the redshirt freshman quarterback’s gait changed twice during the Rebels’ longest play in program history. The first time it happened was when, seven seconds after avoiding a …
Rebels begin working toward 2016-17 season with first official practice
Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016
Ten new scholarship players, three returners and an almost entirely new coaching staff had their first official practice together Friday afternoon. There’s a long way to go to ...
Blog: Rebels pull away late to blow out Fresno State 45-20
Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016

Rebels looking for new QB to make easy plays against Fresno State
Friday, Sept. 30, 2016
Will Kreitler knew about Dalton Sneed long before he prepared this week to snap the ball to him for Sneed’s first collegiate start. While Kreitler was playing his first two years at Scottsdale Community College, Sneed was down the road at Scottsdale’s Horizon High, where he graduated as the Arizona Division 5A career leader in passing yards (8,377) and passing touchdowns (87).

Vegas Play of the Day: Monday Night Football
Monday, Sept. 26, 2016
This comes back to bite me plenty, but as a general rule when I’m taking the underdog in games with lines at less than 3 I like to just go with the moneyline. Underdogs that cover the spread often win straight up, too, so let’s see if we can get a little extra bang for the buck.
Rebels take step back with 33-30 overtime loss at home to Idaho
Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016
The type of game that was supposed to be behind UNLV played out in strikingly familiar fashion Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium. The key difference is that Idaho won’t drop down to Division I-AA for two years, so for now this is just a regular …
Blog: Rebels fall to Idaho 33-30 in overtime
Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016
Idaho’s Matt Linehan hit Callen Hightower streaking across the middle and Hightower snuck into the end zone for the game-winning score, handing UNLV a 33-30 overtime loss tonight at Sam Boyd Stadium.
Vegas Play of the Day: TCU at SMU
Friday, Sept. 23, 2016
TCU has gone over in each of its first three games, but all of those totals were set at less than 60. I think this is too far of a jump up in large part because I don’t think SMU is going to be able to hold up its end of the bargain.
Boyd and receivers working to do their part in UNLV's passing game
Friday, Sept. 23, 2016
Receivers and quarterbacks were the last ones on the field following Wednesday’s UNLV practice at Rebel Park. After two weeks of errant throws compounded by dropped passes, they all wanted some extra time to try to get the passing game moving forward.

Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016
Kurt Palandech is back up to No. 2 on the quarterback depth chart, but there are no immediate plans to work him into Saturday’s game, coach Tony Sanchez said Tuesday afternoon. The Rebels are home this weekend to host Idaho with kickoff at 6 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium and the game streaming on MWN/
Vegas Play of the Day: Monday Night Football
Monday, Sept. 19, 2016
I was originally leaning towards the under in tonight’s Monday Night Football game in Chicago primarily because of turnovers. But the more I think about it the more I expect one or two of those giveaways to lead directly to points, which should push this think up to the 45-50 point range.
5 Rebels to root for: UNLV has stars in volleyball, soccer, cross country and golf
Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016
Bree Hammel, Susie Bernal, John Oda, Danny Musovski and Spencer Moore aren’t scoring touchdowns or dunking basketballs, but they are UNLV athletes worth watching this fall.
Rebels fall completely flat in a 44-21 loss at Central Michigan
Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016
Sometimes, the saying goes, a player can be too open. Running completely free in the secondary gives a guy too much time to think about the play he’s obviously going to make, and he …
Blog: Central Michigan dominates UNLV 44-21
Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016
Central Michigan’s Cooper Rush set a stadium record with six passing touchdowns and the Rebels devolved in all three facets as the game wore on, losing 44-21 today at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
UNLV's Greene a good weapon to have at Central Michigan
Friday, Sept. 16, 2016
Four times against UCLA, the Rebels’ offense faced third or fourth down with only one yard to go. Four times did they convert, and the answer was the same each play: fifth-year backup running back David Greene.
Vegas Play of the Day: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills
Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016
It’s important not to overreact to Week 1 results when you’re looking at the Week 2 slate, and tonight’s game seems like a good opportunity to capitalize on books’ overreaction.
