2011 Scholarship Recipients

Each year, a small selection of students are randomly picked to receive a $1,000 scholarship at the Sun Youth Forum. Here is a quick look at this year's recipients:

Youth Forum
  • Whitney Thomas

  • Clubs/Activities: Ice hockey, National Honors Society and Forensics
  • College choice: Trinity College
  • Favorite part of the SYF: "Being able to communicate with a wide variety of people from across the county."
  • This scholarship means: "I’m so appreciative to have this scholarship to help pay for the universities which I hope to attend."
Youth Forum
  • Erick Alvarez
  • High School: Liberty
  • Clubs/Activities: National Honors Society, Key Club and AP Club
  • College choice: UNLV
  • Favorite part of the SYF: "Discussion. The fact that we have the opportunity to exchange both opinions and solutions to problems about our community."
  • This scholarship means: "I am so grateful to have such an opportunity. It relieves so much stress over how I will pay for college."
