Each year, a small selection of students is randomly picked to receive a $1,000 scholarship at the Sun Youth Forum. Here is a quick look at this year's recipients:
- Junius "JP" Peterson
- High School: Cheyenne HS
- Year/Age: Senior, 17
- Clubs/Activities: Marching band, theater, dance club, color guard.
- College choices: UNR, San Francisco State University or San Diego State University.
- Favorite part of the SYF: "Getting to meet new people and talk about topics that affect us today."
- This scholarship means: "It means it gets me one step closer toward fulfilling my dream of becoming a music educator."
- Shannon Sneade
- High School: Las Vegas Academy
- Year/Age: Senior, 17
- Clubs/Activities: Editor of school newspaper, band and president of "Cheese Club," a school spirit club.
- College choice: Pepperdine or Northwestern.
- Favorite part of the SYF: "I enjoyed hearing other people's views even though I didn't necessarily agree with them."
- This scholarship means: "I really appreciate this because it means I can further my education. It's a nice reward for participating in the Youth Forum."
- Taeg Williams
- High School: Foothill HS
- Year/Age: Senior, 17
- Clubs/Activities: State championship finalist in volleyball, soccer and student council.
- College choice: Utah State University, majoring in bioengineering.
- Favorite part of the SYF: "I just enjoy that we kids have a voice that moderators listen to. It's so unique."
- This scholarship means: "It means I can continue my education."
