Not the brightest of the bunch. Bet they were celebrating the 4th a day early with "illegal" fireworks. Happens all the time.

Easyrider may be exaggerating a bit with cost, but probably not by much. This could be a sweet deal for many of them if they are at the right age and/or with number of years contributed to PERS. Even if they are a little short in time to retire, a small penalty to immediately start collecting retirement should be very enticing too. Good for them since they are getting screwed by the governor, but bad for the tax payers. That goes double for Clark County tax payers since our tax dollars will be used to buy out their years and more of our tax will have to be spent to hire people to do their jobs. Even worse, county pay is far higher for same type of work with collective bargaining, so expect that 5 million dollar cost to double in no time.

While they are at it, disband the Parole and Probation Department, with the small parole unit transferring to the Department of Prisons and the large probation unit transferring to counties. This is the model most other States follow and should save this State government between 50 and 60 million dollars. I believe this was studied during the last legislative session.

Counties in turn, need to make these "probation officer" positions non-sworn, like in other States. Really, if county probation officers in the big bad States like California and Texas can do the same job without guns and badges, so can Nevada probation officers. This move should save the tax payers even more money, especially in Clark County which would end up absorbing majority of those positions.

My condolences to the family.

Several years ago while driving through an intersection going 45mph, I T-boned a car which ran the light. That goes to tell you how much that teenager was paying attention to the road. Fortunately, no one got hurt seriously, but had I entered that intersection half a second sooner, he would have smacked into me, on the driver's side where my baby was also sitting in the rear. Since then, I'm usually not the first to take off on green light and always make sure to look both ways for red light runners.

Whatever time he gets, it won't be enough.

How Ironic. The very person responsible for shoving this fraudulent health care reform bill down our throat was, in the end, also responsible for destroying it (by dying and putting his seat up for grabs). Yeah, I'm talking about the late, great Senator Kennedy. There really is a god after all.
