As Bon Appetit’s Vegas Uncork’d ended the halfway mark of its four-day fine food festival, my notebook was full of highlights:

*TV Chef Gordon Ramsay showed up at last night’s Grand Tasting at the Garden of the Gods at Caesars Palace, which seemingly confirmed our earlier exclusive reports that he’s taking over Les Artistes Steakhouse at the Paris for his first Las Vegas outpost. Rio illusionists Penn & Teller also strolled the 5 acres of food stations.

*Macho Chef Steve Martorano from his self-named restaurant at the Rio proudly showed off copies of his new biography cookbook Yo Cuz, which is to be turned into a new reality TV series.

*Congratulations to star Chef Guy Savoy’s son Franck, now director of restaurants at Caesars Palace, on his engagement earlier in the day to girlfriend Gail. At first there were rumors they’d run off to marry in a downtown chapel, but Franck said “mais non” and invited me to the wedding on Sept. 18!

*Chef Paul Bartolotta of the Wynn narrowly missed out on a third consecutive win at the Vegas Uncork’d Celebrity Chef Blackjack Tournament at XS at the Encore. Encore Chef Jet Tila from Wazuzu and Top Chef Masters had the winning hand. But Three Square food bank was the real winner, with funds raised at the event donated to its important work of providing meals to the needy.
