There were emotional tears and exuberant cheers for legendary and incredible illusionists Siegfried & Roy when they were honored at the 14th annual Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow carnival and gala at Caesars Palace.

Celebrities, corporate leaders and politicians turned out to salute the magnificent magicians. Mayor Carolyn Goodman declared Oct. 15 as Siegfried & Roy Day with an official proclamation signed by the Las Vegas City Council recognizing the duo’s extraordinary and selfless contributions to our community and charities.

Celine Dion, Maria Shriver and Terry Fator were joined by MGM chief Jim Murren, hotel mogul Steve Wynn, Southern Wine and Spirits head honcho Larry Ruvo and MGM executives Bobby Baldwin and Felix Rappaport for a video salute to the longtime Las Vegas headliners and residents.

Siegfried & Roy on Sunday continue their good deeds hosting their 21st annual Las Vegas Metro Police K-9 Trials. “The highly trained and courageous dogs and officers of the Las Vegas Police K-9 Unit face potentially dangerous situations and armed criminal attacks at the risk of their lives every day,” Siegfried Fischbacher said. “The bond between these human and canine officers is extraordinary to behold and thrilling to see. They are living heroes dedicated to serving our community.

“Unfortunately, at the end of their service, they require specialized and costly medical care, and even though they are state employees, they have no retirement plan, so we must be generous in respecting and honoring their service. Our trials at the Orleans Arena on Sunday will be the unit’s only true fundraiser with an international contest to showcase the amazing skills and abilities of these magnificent animals. It has become the most renowned trial of its kind in America.

“Please join us in supporting this valiant unit.”
