Reigning Miss America Teresa Scanlan has arrived in Las Vegas for one very busy day of marking the actual 90th birthday of the Miss America Organization. She also will drum up publicity for next year’s pageant at Planet Hollywood.
The Bachelor and Bachelor Pad host Chris Harrison will host the 2012 Miss America Pageant from Planet Hollywood on Jan. 14. It’s his second consecutive and third time as host, the first in 2004. Last year’s broadcast that he hosted from Planet Hollywood drew a record 14.6 million viewers.
Chris said: “It is an honor to come back and host Miss America, one of the most iconic jobs in television, so I am thrilled to once again be at the helm.” Teresa, Miss Nebraska, arrived late last night, and her first stop this morning is at the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy. She will speak to fourth- and fifth-graders gathered in the cafeteria for about 40 minutes on the subject of hard work and success. She also will visit with the younger children there.
Later this morning, she films an ABC segment on the 90th anniversary. At noon, she heads to City Hall, where Mayor Carolyn Goodman presents her with a key to the city to mark the milestone anniversary. This afternoon, Teresa visits the Las Vegas Academy and promises to perform “White Water Chopped Sticks” with its jazz band.
I’ll chat with Teresa afterward for a follow-up story we’ll post here tomorrow. Tonight, she’ll meet with Las Vegas VIPs who serve on the board of the Miss America Organization to plan January’s weeklong events. Tomorrow, she departs for appearances with Artistry Cosmetics by Amway.
