Hot was definitely the word of the day, hot because the temperature in my car read 124 degrees(!) when I pulled up to the “Fantasy” glamour girls photo shoot location Monday afternoon.

Hot because the blonde and brunette beauties were filming under bright lights and glaring reflectors that pushed up the reading even higher. And hot because the bronzed bikini bodies were, ahem, just that.

It was the annual two-day sexy shoot of the Luxor’s fabulous “Fantasy” females, and Vegas DeLuxe was invited along with Las Vegas Sun photographer Christopher DeVargas to sit in on the action for a peek-a-boo, behind-the scenes exclusive look.

Call it Barely Bejeweled. Call it the Glamendar. It’s the 2013 high-fashion-themed calendar with the 15 topless showgirls draped in diamonds and -- let’s be honest -- very little else. It might seem a little unusual to be shooting a calendar under the hot desert sun halfway through the year, but even though January 2013 is six months away, “Fantasy” producer/director Anita Mann has a tough production schedule ahead of her.

“We have to select the photos almost immediately. Yes, they’re topless, but we have it all carefully hidden and left to the imagination with the illusions. Then the layouts must go to the printers by Aug. 1, and then we have our official launch party and first peek at the finished calendars Oct. 2,” Anita said.

“We have three girls to pick out for October, November and December and then 12 for the 12 months of next year. All the girls will appear together in the same one incredible black jeweled bikini from A.Che on the back cover.”

Las Vegas pinup photographer Oscar Picazo shoots about 10 photos of each girl in different poses at one beauty per hour. He’s known for his powerful and meticulous work with colors and storyboarded each pose in advance to capture his overall provocative and powerful images of the bejeweled beauties.

“They are beautiful, hot bodies. My mission is to capture their incredible energy. They are very professional, and it really helps that they aren’t shy about their bodies and that they are disciplined as dancers,” Oscar told me.

He also admitted that he is pushing them to the limit in the brutal, wilting weather and that one of the topless temptresses fainted briefly.

Our Sun cameraman added: “They are certainly unique, gorgeous women -- one of a kind, and I’ve seen a lot of beauties through my lens.”

The “Fantasy” calendars have been hot-sellers and reprinted at least twice this year. This will be the seventh calendar -- the first one was in 2006, with a coffee-table book produced in 2010. The dancers also shot a one-hour behind-the-scenes DVD that will be sold at the Luxor. “Fans love to meet the girls after each show, so they take away a personally signed calendar as a souvenir,” Anita said.

It was tough to keep my eyes on the paper for my shorthand notes and concentrate on the interviews when inches away Yesi was being oiled up for her turn in front of the camera. Other distractions: stunning Kristin in strips and circles of silver looking like a Grecian goddess; Mariah wearing a blowing, flimsy see-through chiffon skirt and pearls; Jennifer in a diamonds-only shot behind a water spray; Koree and turquoise jewelry; and Natasha in a diamond necklace and flowers for her tantalizing and titillating cover-up.

Anita summed up: “The fans love the calendars. The girls love posing for it. I am so pleased we did everything this time around here in Las Vegas. I can tell already this will be our hottest yet, even though it’s tough to stop from melting in the heat.” I knew exactly what she meant as I drove off, although the temperature had “dipped” to 120 degrees.
