Investors and promoters are busy booking acts for the new Boulevard Theater and Nightclub they plan to open this fall in the old Club Utopia space just off the Strip on a side alley near MGM Grand. Vegas DeLuxe first broke the news of the project earlier this year.

I’ve now learned that the “rent-a-room” four-wall venue has magician Tommy Wind set in the 5 and 7 p.m. slots and a dance revue “Showgirls” with Playboy beauty Vanessa Lace at 9 p.m. “The Hole,” a controversial avant-garde production from Spain, was set for 11 p.m., but apparently there are some angel-investor hiccups.

The nightclub would open at 1 a.m. Taking a page out of producer David Saxe’s playbook at Planet Hollywood, the organizers are still looking for acts to rent the space for 1 and 3 p.m. shows. Vegas DeLuxe will keep you posted on this project.

CARLA ON ‘TOP CHEF’: Now we know why Tropicana chef Carla Pellegrino “vanished” for weeks in June and was sworn to secrecy as to what she was doing. I’d reported my guess that it was a reality TV series, and now we’ve learned that she was one of the 21 chefs competing in Season 10 of Bravo’s “Top Chef” filmed in Seattle. It begins airing Nov. 7 with Las Vegas chefs Wolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse and Tom Colicchio as judges. Carla was one of our summer guest columnists at Vegas DeLuxe.

Carla, 43, competes against 20 other kitchen kings and queens from New York, L.A., D.C., Chicago, Boston, Denver, Dallas and Hawaii. Tom also will host the follow-up Internet series “Last Chance” for a second season after each broadcast, which will give two eliminated chefs a face-off to see if they can compete in the finale.

Meantime, Tom will take over Kokomo’s at the Mirage with a new 250-seat restaurant to open next summer. Tom says his restaurant will focus on open-flame meats; all meats will be prepared over an open flame from wood-burning ovens and charcoal grills.

HALLOWEEN HORRORS: It’s safe to call macabre magician the Amazing Johnathan the “Freddy Krueger of Comedy.” For years, he has held an invitation-only Halloween shock and scare party at his secret warehouse, but now he’s going to share the experience with fans, too. He will launch the SCREAMont Experiment, a terrifying interactive walk-through attraction at the Las Vegas Club Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas starting Oct. 6.

He said: “These are the warped, wicked theatrics that others have enjoyed for years. The eerie attraction will be a multilevel haunted hotel featuring 35,000 square feet of themed rooms, optical illusions, mind-blowing special effects and terrifying twists around every corner. A ghostly bellman will greet, then guide them through the quarantined hotel now taken over by previous guests who’ve mysteriously gone insane during their horrific stay.”

PELICANS COME HOME: The Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo is now home to two recently rehabilitated brown pelicans rescued by the Pacific Wildlife Project. Flamingo staff adopted the birds, one male and one female, which were rendered flightless after injuries from being entangled by fishing lines. Bugsy and Virginia were introduced into their new home Tuesday.

The names for the pelicans were selected in an employees’ naming contest held for recognizing the resort’s original owner Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and his girlfriend Virginia Hill. The Mob kingpin opened the Flamingo in 1946 as the first luxury resort of its kind in the U.S. and named it after the sexy redhead known for her long legs.

Congratulations to Stratosphere headliner singer Frankie Moreno on the release of his new CD, which he celebrates with an official party tonight in his showroom.

Call it extreme biking. CrossVegas, the largest cyclocross race outside Europe, blasts through Las Vegas tonight with international racers displaying unbelievable athleticism until 11 p.m. at Desert Breeze Soccer Complex. They use special bikes to roar over barriers and obstacles while speeding to the finish line. It’s mountain biking meets road racing.

Flamingo headliner Donny Osmond will again host the Danny Gans Memorial Champions Run for Life on Oct. 20 in Henderson as a fundraiser for Nevada Children’s Cancer. The annual 5K run/walk and team event continues to honor the memory of Strip headliner entertainer and impressionist Danny Gans, who generously supported critically ill children and their families living in Southern Nevada.

Rod Stewart resumes his run of hits at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace through Oct. 7.

The Dead Kennedys are joined by the Generators and Battle Born at Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip.

The Barrett-Jackson Collectible Car Auction kickoff party is at Mandalay Bay Beach.

It’s the grand reopening Roaring 20s style -- with femme fatales as flappers -- at the newly decorated and renovated downtown Golden Gate Hotel, which dates back to the birth of Las Vegas. Plus, a preview of the star-studded iHeart Radio Music Festival.
