The weeklong 2013 season opening of Wet Republic at MGM Grand started last Sunday with Grammy-winning Calvin Harris and surprise guest Ne-Yo and continued today with the mouse ears-donning Deadmau5.
Arriving around 2:30 p.m., Deadmau5, in a bright red T-shirt, made his way to the DJ booth and prepared for his 2013 daylife debut, spinning the wheels of steel about 30 minutes later and officially launching his exclusive party “Unhooked.”
Deadmau5, birth name Joel Zimmerman, also kicked off the opening night of nearby Hakkasan Las Vegas on Thursday night. He is the first EDM artist to make the cover of Rolling Stone (in June 2012) and performed at the 2012 Grammy Awards, another milestone for EDM.
DJ Fergie, not the singer from The Black Eyed Peas, kicked off the daytime revelry. Thanks to Al Powers of Powers Imagery for his photo gallery of Deadmau5 -- with and without his ears.
