For the second time in two weeks, a last-minute and unforeseen construction delay has postponed Holly Madison’s plans to open her Roaring 1920s-themed 1923 Bourbon & Burlesque cabaret lounge at Mandalay Bay. The red carpet gala, originally slated for tonight, has been rescheduled for May 1. (However, 1923 will have a soft opening Friday for cocktail service.)

Holly, who is the creator and producer of the show, told me: “We’re ready to go, but construction hiccups are out of my control. When we open now in two weeks, it will be a very special venue and unlike anything Las Vegas has right now. It will be super fun.

“It’s not going to be a typical show where you buy a ticket and sit down for 90 minutes. Our entertainment will be a nightlife experience throughout the night with five dancers, a four-piece band, singer Skye Dee Miles — and me!

“My new redheaded look was inspired by Jessica Rabbit, and I’ll be singing ‘Why Don’t You Do Right’ by Peggy Lee. I’ll be performing other numbers, but that’s my one song. The gloves will come off, some other costumes will come off, but I think I’ll keep my stockings on!

“We’re going to constantly change up the show so that every time somebody comes back to Las Vegas, there’s always something new to see at Bourbon & Burlesque.”

“Rehearsals have gone really well. We were all ready for the show, but now we can add more things almost immediately. We’ll work with the other girls who were joining the cast next week. We’ll always be changing, we’ll always be moving and shaking and adding new things, so it’s a very fun project for me.”

Holly has brought in Michelle Deterlizzi from their days together during Holly’s three-year headliner run in “Peepshow” at Planet Hollywood.

“She’s been doing our choreography. She’s wonderful, and I want her to get the credit,” said Holly. “This new, unexpected delay gives us another opportunity to add elements and dance routines so that everything will always be different each night after our May 1 opening.”

We’ll post our full interview with Holly about the new, seductive striptease cabaret and the delicious and dangerous dancers she’s signed the day it opens. Meantime, I also chatted with her about baby plans and a new reality TV series.

“My daughter Rainbow just turned 1. I want Rainbow to have a sibling, but I'm taking the rest of the year off from that. Having just one baby is a lot to get used to. She’s a doll, she’s perfect, she couldn’t be any smarter or better behaved, but any parent will tell you that it’s a lot of work.

“The 1923 project has been another baby. I think I might be starting on baby No. 2 by the time Rainbow turns 2 this time next year. … Marriage is great. I’m loving being a mommy. I have a wonderful family, and I’m really, really lucky.”

Holly is married to Electric Daisy Carnival chief Pasquale Rotella. She told me that she’s already shot a new reality-TV show sizzle pilot: “The Holly life story continues,” she laughed.

“We haven’t had the time to show it around yet. I’ve just been so focused on the club. There’s a little bit about the new 1923 burlesque shows, a lot about our family life — kind of a big mish-mash with lots of eye candy.

“This has all been a dream of mine for a while. Ever since I got on the stage, I always wanted to do something behind-the-scenes, something sustainable. Something to be involved with for more than just a couple of years at a time. Hopefully this is the first of many.”

Chuck Bowling, Mandalay Bay president, said: “Holly’s ultra lounge will fill a much-needed niche within our resort. The last year has been a transformative one for Mandalay Bay with new entertainment, nightlife, daylife, restaurants and bars.

“Holly gives us another unique take with an intimate, engaging destination where guests can enjoy cocktails, conversation and entertainment all in one spot.”
