It’s not quite a performance from a hospital bed, but pretty darn close. Feisty singer Pia Zadora has a miracle return to her cabaret shows at Piero’s this weekend a few months after serious injuries sustained when her golf cart overturned.
The outlook was so grim that friends predicted she’d be laid up for at least six months. She’s still on crutches and with a walking boot — bejeweled, of course. She performs Friday and Saturday, takes off Thanksgiving and then resumes weekends for the remainder of the year and adds a New Year’s Eve show.
Pia’s musical director Vincent Falcone and their band have added holiday songs, and Santa will drop by for “Jingle Bell Rock.” Don’t expect any high kicks or fast foxtrots from Pia, but even if she remains seated to sing, it is a marvelous recovery. Bravo!
UNIQUE NEW YEAR’S: It’s the most unique, and easiest, way to celebrate NYE, and it’s perfect to plot and plan over Thanksgiving with family and friends. Celebrity chef Rick Moonen has come up with an auction where the winner and 99 friends and family take over his Rx Boiler Room in Mandalay Place for NYE.
That means a beautiful meal and wonderful wines, but no dishes or glasses to worry about afterward. It’s your exclusive party, menu, bar and restaurant for the most fun night of the year. Rick will sit down with chef partner Michael Frauenheim to create a custom-designed menu, and his wife, Roni Moonen, will plan the event and decor. It’s the perfect night for friends to go all in; for example, four couples could share the cost and invite 24 people each.
Rick is taking $5,000 of the winning bid to donate to the Scleroderma Research Foundation or a charity of your choice. Bidding starts at $25,000 the day after Thanksgiving. Contact Melissa Eichelberger at (702) 632-9900 to place a bid or email her at [email protected]
ROCK AWARDS: It’s a celebration of ’80s rock when the fifth-annual Vegas Rocks! Magazine Music Awards are presented Sunday at Pearl at the Palms, and stars including Nicolas Cage and Ron Jeremy will be partying with the rockers.
Michael Anthony (Van Halen, Chicken Foot) will be honored as Inspirational Icon; Toto will be recognized with the Music Lifetime Legend Award with Steve Lukather and David Paich attending; Ratt star Stephen Pearcy will be honored as Voice of ’80s Metal; Michael Jackson’s guitarist Orianthi will receive the Rock Guitar Goddess of the Universe award; and Don Dokken will be presented with the Voice of the ’80s trophy.
Other rockers on hand: Devil City Angels (Rikki Rockett, Tracii Guns, Eric Brittingham, Brandon Gibbs), The Bullet Boys, John 5 (Marilyn Manson), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne), Wes Cage (Adelita’s Way), Mark Kendall (Great White) and Otis Day (Animal House) , plus Danny Koker of “Counting Cars.”
The awards coincide with the 10th year of publishing queen Sally Steele’s Vegas Rocks! magazine. As co-host, she said, “We’re inviting the public to the red carpet at 6 p.m. with some of the most famous rock artists in the industry, and it gets even better with the historic performances that follow.” Las Vegas stars Frankie Moreno and Chris Philips of Zowie Bowie will welcome out-of-town rockers.
BURT REYNOLDS AUCTION: Film star Burt Reynolds plans to sell his private movie memorabilia and artifacts collection at the Palms from Dec. 11-12. Juliens Auctions will handle the sale, which includes his personal effects, career memorabilia and fine art collection.
In addition to his six-decade career that began on CBS’ “Gunsmoke” and his leading roles in “Smokey and the Bandit” and “Deliverance,” he’s a businessman who has owned a football team, dinner theater, ranch and museum. And how could we forget that he was the first nude male centerfold in Cosmopolitan.
The 2014 Latin Grammy Awards take center stage at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
