TV titan Oprah Winfrey has taken her show on the road. “The Life You Want Weekend” will play eight cities after its premiere in Atlanta over the weekend.
Las Vegas hero Amy Purdy, who dazzled America with her performances on the last Season 18 of “Dancing With the Stars,” was one of the guest speakers talking of her courage and determination not to give up skiing as a Paralympics champion after losing her legs to a debilitating viral illness.
Other speakers at the sell-out show included Deepak Chopra, Iyanla Vanzant, Elizabeth Gilbert and Pastor Rob Bell.
The tour will hit Miami, Houston, Newark, N.J., Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Detroit, but not Las vegas. The nearest city you can catch it will be San Jose.
GEORGE SETS WEDDING: Las Vegas VIPs and high-rollers attending the celebrity fight-night gala in Italy hosted by Andrea Bocelli for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson’s Center in Phoenix heard secrets from George Clooney when he spoke at the festivities in Florence.
From the stage, he first told fiance London lawyer Amal Alamuddin how much he loved her and then revealed that they will marry in about two weeks in Venice rather than as expected at his Lake Como home. Amal has already picked up their wedding license issued in London.
Congratulations to Las Vegas regular Neil Patrick Harris, who married his partner of 10 years David Burtka in Italy over the weekend.
NEW HEAD COACH: Hall of Fame star Aaron Garcia has been hired by Motley Crue rocker and Las Vegas resident Vince Neil and his partners in the new Las Vegas Outlaws Arena Football League team.
“We’re on our way to a championship team,” Vince told me. Aaron, 44, played college football at Sacramento State and was signed by the Arizona Rattlers. He was the quarterback for the Los Angeles KISS team of the AFL. Aaron holds two AFL records with 56,878 passing yards and 1,284 touchdowns. He will be introduced to fans at the end of this month when Vince reveals the arena for his new team here.
MARATHON CHANGES: More than 32,000 runners have registered for this year’s Rock ’n’ Roll Strip marathon Nov. 16 with Snoop Dogg headlining the pre-race concert.
On Tuesday, officials will announce for the first time a 2014 marathon expansion to include a new running event on the Strip on Nov. 15. Bands will be set up at 1-mile intervals along the running route.
GUEST STAR: Incredible magician Bill Malone saw a dream come true today when he started filming a top-rated TV show, but he’s not playing the role of a magician that he always wanted. Bill, who calls Southern Hills home, is in L.A. filming a pre-Halloween episode of CBS’ “NCIS” with Chris O’Donnell, L.L. Cool J and Linda Hunt.
“I start out being likeable and then turn into the most despicable character. The whole episode was written especially for me,” Bill told me by phone today. He went to acting classes after being approved by the producers and the network. I’ve known Bill for more than 30 years, and in those early days before his fame and fortune once hired him for my birthday. Today, he is highly regarded in the magic community and for creating the Sam the Bellhop card trick.
BRITNEY TRAVELS: While on a break from her “Britney: Piece of Me” sellout shows at Planet Hollywood, there’s no rest for Britney Spears. On Tuesday, she launches her line of intimates lingerie during Fashion Week at the New York City library.
Then she hops a plane to London to launch the line in Europe in a whirlwind five-day trip. She returns to continue recording her ninth studio album as a follow-up to December’s “Britney Jean” album and her Las Vegas shows.
PASTA GALORE: Will a Las Vegas local be one of the only 1,000 people to win the right to buy a $100 Never Ending Pasta Pass at our Olive Garden restaurants in the valley? The winner will be able to gorge themselves for 49 consecutive days with all of the pasta, salad, bread and Coca-Cola-branded soft drinks that they can stuff down in the seven weeks from Sept. 22 through Nov. 9.
As many as seven guests can join the pass holder for free drinks with their dinner, and the restaurant says it’ll turn a blind eye to sharing the dishes — and they also be able to go home with a doggie bag.
ZIPCAR: We may not have Uber in Las Vegas, but the tech trend of getting vehicles has begun with Ride Genie and now ZipCar: Our UNLV has partnered with a division of Avis Rent-a-Car to provide Las Vegas with Zipcar’s car-sharing service, the world’s largest. Cars can be found at UNLV and McCarran Airport for use by the hour or day.
Go to Zipcar.com, to download the App on your IPhone or Android. Join for $25 and rent as low as $7 for an hour or $69 for a day with 180 miles included. Once a member, you can rent at more than 350 university locations across the U.S., Canada and Europe.
BEAUTY READS: Contestants in the upcoming Miss Asia Las Vegas beauty pageant partnered today with our Boys & Girls Club to promote the importance of reading on International Literacy Day. They read to kids at Lied Clubhouse about Asian culture and traditions.
Among the beauties were Catherine Ho, the reigning Miss Asian Las Vegas, whose passion for volunteering was recognized when she won “Miss Community Service” at the 2014 Miss Asian America Pageant, and Elisa Chan, the reigning Miss Chinese Las Vegas.
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: The new season of “Monday Night Football” gets underway tonight ( MON) at Lagasse’s Stadium in Palazzo. The sports book and bar has more than 100 HD TV’s, including the main screen that measures 16 feet by 9 feet.
Chef Emeril Lagasse’s kitchen team will theme the taste treats to the home teams playing, so tonight for the New York Giants against the Detroit Lions, it’s Coney Island hot dogs and linguini and clams. Lagasse’s Stadium is home for live Sports X broadcasts with Ken Thomson on Yahoo!
