It’s a bigger blast than New Year’s Eve as the kings and queens of music show their love for the three massive iHeartRadio Music Festival concerts this weekend. Be it pop, country, EDM, R&B, rock and rap, every genre is covered in the amazing superstar lineup.
The nonstop 48 hours of performances followed by dusk-to-dawn nightclub parties start Friday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena. First-night stars, ladies first, include Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Motley Crue, Coldplay, Zac Brown Band, Usher, Bastille and Hakkasan at MGM Grand resident DJ Steve Aoki.
Motley Crue frontman and Las Vegas resident Vince told me: “We’re doing three numbers in a very fast choreographed act with an amazing set of pyrotechnics that will blow people’s minds. We’ve never done anything this ambitious, and it’s a preview of our two-yearlong farewell world tour that gets underway next month.”
Saturday afternoon from noon onward, the 15-acre, open-air MGM Festival grounds (formerly the Lot) on the Strip opposite the Luxor rocks with Iggy Azalea, 5 Seconds of Summer, Neon Trees, Kacey Musgraves, Childish Gambino, Magic!, The Pretty Reckless, Lil Jon, Fences, Nico & Vinz and Jake Miller.
Iggy will do double duty appearing for a second show at MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night. Also there: One Direction, Train, Paramore, Eric Church, Lorde, 50 Cent, Ed Sheeran, Weezer and Hakkasan resident DJ Calvin Harris.
We have photographers all set to cover the shows, so be sure to check back this weekend for our galleries and reports.
If you’re out of town and unable to join in the iHeart excitement here in Las Vegas, you can tune in to the live stream of the festival on your favorite iHeartMedia radio station or Yahoo live or watch it at http://festival.iheart.com/tunein.
You’ll get a second shot at seeing the impressive music festival and village in a two-night, four-hour primetime special on the CW on Monday, Sept. 29, and Tuesday, Sept. 30. It kicks off the network’s new fall season of shows.
The official iHeart afterparty at Haze in Aria is hosted by Nico & Vinz, Ariana hosts an iHeart party at 1OAK in the Mirage, and Will.I.Am is the party ringleader at Surrender in Encore.
In addition to the music at the Festival Village, there will be several attractions. Ideal Image has set up a misting tent to keep concertgoers cool and refreshed in the heat. Jim Beam Bourbon has an airbrush tattoo parlor, plus, a shot of the Kentucky favorite. Elizabeth Arden has a celebrity fragrances booth with a new celebrity photo filter featuring One Direction. iHeartRadio DJs will be at the Monster booth helping provide a sneak peek of the upcoming Rave headphones and the world’s smallest audiophile Super Star speaker.
I haven’t yet discovered where the CW is setting up a beach on the Strip, but there will be beach games to play on the sandy oasis, so pack your swimsuits. “Extra’s” Mario Lopez hosts 50 lucky fans at a Neon Trees backstage breakfast at the Village thrown by Taco Bell.
His wife, Courtney, will be at the Wet ’n’ Wild beauty hideout tent where makeup artists will help transform you behind the shades. Check out Wet’s free Steal the Look app (StealAnyLook.com), and you, too, will look like a pop princess or a rapping superstar for this fourth-annual invasion of music’s best and brightest.
There are 850 radio stations coast to coast in the iHeart network.
