After months of rehabilitation in Denver, Omaha and here, food critic Max Jacobson made his first appearance back in town for the Chefs to the Max fundraiser for him at Kerry Simon’s downtown Carson Kitchen on Sunday night.
Kerry, who is now wheelchair-bound and fighting a horrendous battle against his body shutting down by Multiple System Atrophy, greeted his friend Max at his new downtown restaurant.
Max told me in a not quite whispered voice that he’s slowly recovering from the awful brain injuries sustained when he was mowed down in a crosswalk in December but is having difficulty remembering past events.
“Some come easily, but others I just can’t recall,” he said.
The chefs cooking for the dine-around overseen by Matt Andrews, executive chef at Carson Kitchen, were Luciano Pellegrini and Jose Aleman of Marche Bacchus; Ming See Woo of Fu at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas; Chris Palmeri of Naked City Pizza; and Paloma Cuellar of La Comida.
