The entertainment history of Las Vegas will be celebrated with our favorite hometown rockers The Killers at the April 6 opening weekend of the new Las Vegas Arena.

Also onboard for the grand opening: “Mr. Las Vegas” himself Wayne Newton and Las Vegas artist Shamir. MGM Resorts International officials in an early morning news release said tickets will go on sale Saturday.

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers sent a humorous note in the news release on behalf of drummer Ronnie Vannucci, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer:

“Notorious libertines of the unofficial Republic of Vegas, rejoice! We are very pleased to be able to pay our gambling debts by playing the first show at Las Vegas Arena! Plus, we’re bringing some Las Vegas newcomers to help us, as well: Wayne Newton and Shamir!

“Please join us for fun, and be sure to bring a positive mental attitude, and the deed to your house if need be. Tickets available at all the regular outlets. Otherwise, see our bass player Mark for guest list. Peace and love, Los Killers.”

“It’s only fitting that we open the new Las Vegas Arena with the biggest and most successful performers to come out of Las Vegas,” said Bobby Reynolds, vice president of booking for AEG Live, in the news release.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome The Killers home to this incredible new venue and back to their adoring Las Vegas fans.”

Rick Arpin, representative for Las Vegas Arena, said, “The opening act for the Las Vegas Arena has been subject to lots of speculation, but in our mind it always made sense to celebrate Las Vegas and its homegrown talent.

“We want Las Vegas to know this is ‘your house,’ and we look forward to making The Killers feel right at home.”

Everybody knows the bio details of entertainment legend Wayne, who first starred downtown while still a teenager and took party in the annual Great Santa Run downtown Saturday morning.

Shamir Bailey, a 20-year-old Las Vegas native and musician, draws influence from soul, R&B, house, disco, rap and pop in the tradition of Prince, Grace Jones, David Bowie and Madonna. His debut EP “Northtown” was released in 2014, and his first album, “Ratchet,” was released in May.
